It’s gnarly, it’s nightmare fuel for hormonal adolescents, and such a unique portrayal of puberty dilemmas. The folk tale of vagina dentata turns into reality in Teeth, about a high school student with teeth where - well, search “vagina dentata.” Jess Weixler plays a young woman using her body to attack back against male abuse, melding the worlds of razor-sharp body horror with coming-of-age storytelling. Stars: Jess Weixler, John Hensley, Josh Pais.M3GAN is an endearing creation lashing back against her creators with personality and a killer instinct, making the most of pre-release hype by delivering on promises of humor and violence. Allison Williams wages war against her superintelligent dolly who sings and slays in a PG-13 affair that begs for a bit more blood, but entertains nonetheless. It’s more comedic than unsettling but works well enough as a horror-comedy about a murderous plaything gone rogue. The horrors of artificial intelligence are alive and well in M3GAN.
